Solar power works by harnessing the sunlight to produce electricity through a solar panel. Solar panels, typically made of photovoltaic (PV) cells and convert sunlight into electricity through a process called the photovoltaic effect. These panels generate direct current (DC) electricity, which is regulated with a charge controller. The charge controller then sends the DC electricity to a load (device), but more often to a battery. Alternating current (AC), like in your home, is converted from the DC battery using an inverter so it can power home or business devices and appliances. Batteries are used for energy storage, allowing the use of solar power even when the sun isn’t shining.
